Bio: Fred McMahon is the Vice-President of Research, International, at the Fraser Institute. He was born and brought up in Halifax. He obtained his MA in economics from McGill University in 1985. Prior to obtaining his MA in economics, he was a journalist, working with the Halifax Herald, the Montreal Daily News, and the Financial Post of Canada.
He has authored several books including, Looking the Gift Horse in the Mouth: The Impact of Federal Transfers on Atlantic Canada, which won the Sir Antony Fisher International Memorial Award for public policy books, Road to Growth: How Lagging Economies Become Prosperous (with an foreword by former Irish Prime Minister John Bruton), and Retreat from Growth: Atlantic Canada and the Negative Sum Economy (with a foreword by Nobel Laureate Robert Mundell).
Topic: The Fraser Institute Survey of Mining Companies
Abstract: Mr. McMahon`s presentation will be ``The Fraser Institute Survey of Mining Companies 2009/2010``. The Fraser Institute has been providing valuable information on political risk to the mining industry and policy makers since 1997 by examining 13 policy areas such as taxation, regulation, land claims, etc. The survey was sent to 3,000 executives at exploration, development, and mining consulting companies from which 670 executives responded. The presentation discusses the results of the 2009 survey.
